Donna De Carolis
Donna Marie De Carolis, PhD, is the Founding Dean of the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship and the Silverman Family Professor of Entrepreneurial Leadership. As an educator, Donna has researched, written and lectured extensively on various aspects of entrepreneurship, technology management and technology commercialization. She is certified in Emotional Intelligence coaching and integrates her expertise in this area into her technology leadership curriculum. She is the recipient of the prestigious Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching (2003) and the Distinguished Teaching Excellence Award from Executive MBA’s. Her research has appeared in journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, The Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Barrie E. Litzky, received her Ph.D. in organizational sciences and psychology from Drexel University and taught for the past 18 years at Penn State Great Valley. At PSU, Barrie’s primary teaching responsibilities included business, ethics, and society; sustainability; diversity leadership; and career management. She established the Consortium for Sustainable Business Development at Penn State Great Valley, which operated from 2010 through 2013 and supported various faculty research projects, a campus lecture series, and a variety of student initiatives including service learning and field trips. Ozlem Ogutveren Gonul
Ozlem Ogutveren-Gonul is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Close School of Entrepreneurship. She has experience in teaching a variety of courses in Management and Entrepreneurship for over twenty three years. She holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior and her dissertation titled “Analysis of Organizational Trust on Business Networks: An Empirical Study on Entrepreneurial Enterprises” focused on different types of trust developed between entrepreneurial firms working together over extended periods of time. Charles Sacco is the Assistant Dean for Strategic Initiatives at the Close School and the Director of the Baiada Institute. He is a technology entrepreneur, educator, and public speaker. His career includes a track-record of launching and growing businesses in the fields of enterprise software, business process management and mobile applications. He has started or helped to start six new ventures, and his most recent startup was the launch of PhindMe Mobile in 2008, which he co-founded, led, and sold to Movitas LLC, a provider of mobile technology solutions to the travel and tourism industries. John Wilson (PhD, MBA) is an entrepreneur, intrapreneur (corporate entrepreneur), scholar, and public speaker with more than twenty years of experience in the software & services industries. He strives to bring a multi-dimensional perspective on market dynamics and organizational design concepts that help start-up and scale-up businesses to produce profitable growth through consulting, learning, and executive coaching services. Prior to joining the Drexel faculty, Dr. Wilson served as Director, Product Management (General Manager for Global & Foundational Technologies lines of business) at Vertex, Inc (NASDAQ: VERX). During his time in the technology industry, he worked with more than 500 of the largest companies in the world, leading the development of leading-edge technologies, algorithms, and services that address volatile and complex global regulatory compliance challenges. Further, Dr. Wilson founded and launched a transformational enterprise-wide corporate sustainability/social responsibility program designed to connect the company purpose, values, and strategies with those of customers, government stakeholders, and the communities served worldwide.
Dr. Wilson’s research includes focus on intrapreneurship, entrepreneurship, design thinking, business modeling, organizational leadership, employee empowerment, self-leadership, and sustainability/social impact. He has authored and published in research outlets including the Journal for International Business and Public Administration, IGI Global, Springer Publishing/Palgrave Macmillan, Leadership Advance Online and others. One of his teaching goals is to inspire and equip emerging entrepreneurs who want to achieve social justice and transformation by creating and growing businesses that benefit society through innovation and collaboration.
Dave Turner Adjunct Professor
Dave Turner is currently the COO for Tangent Energy Solutions. Tangent is a new breed of Energy Services Company which provides utilities, Industrial and Institutional clients with Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and DERMS technology and services to increase economics, reliability, and resiliency. Dave is an energy and utility industry executive with more than 30 years of utility industry experience in managing operations, planning, and information technology projects and organizations. Prior to Tangent Dave was an Executive VP at Gestalt which was purchased by Accenture in 2008, Dave was responsible for developing Accenture's T&D BPO services as well as providing T&D business process, AMI and Smart Grid business case, and strategic planning support to Accenture’s utility clients. Before joining Gestalt/Accenture, Dave served as Executive Vice President at InfraSource, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation, and as President and COO of InfraSource's Managed Services Group, where he was responsible for leading InfraSource from initial concept and startup through an aggressive industry consolidation and into profitability. In addition, he has managed field operations, information systems, training, engineering, and planning organizations for PECO Energy, now an Exelon Company and a Fortune 100 electric utility, and the PJM Interconnection, which operates and controls the bulk electric power system throughout major portions of five Mid-Atlantic states and the District of Columbia.
Nick Bayer Adjunct Professor
Nick Bayer has always been in the business of bringing people together, whether it's as one of Philadelphia Business Journal's Most Admired CEOs or as a consummate team captain since Little League. So when he created Saxbys Coffee in 2005, he never really considered it to be a coffee company — instead, it's a hospitality company fueled by great coffee. Saxbys has since grown from one corner café to a 30-unit, Philadelphia-based hospitality business with a mission: Make Life Better.
Driven by deep-seated core values and O.D.D. (outgoing, detail-oriented, and disciplined) team members, Saxbys is headquartered in Center City Philadelphia with cafés in nine states and on a number of college campuses — and growing fast (30% a year fast). In April 2015, Saxbys opened its first experiential learning café. The product of a partnership between Saxbys and Drexel University's Close School of Entrepreneurship, it's the nation's first entirely student-run café where students earn full academic credit through a university cooperative education (co-op) program.
He serves on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region, Drexel University Steinbright Career Development Center's board and is a Corporate Council Member for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He was also named 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He resides in Center City Philadelphia with his wife and son.
Dean Musser Adjunct Professor
Prior to founding Tangent, Dean was COO of Comverge C&I Group, a demand response, advanced metering and grid management solutions company. He founded, and was President and CEO of Enerwise Global Technologies, which he transformed into the largest demand response provider in PJM before selling to Comverge, one of the country’s largest demand response companies.
Dean previously served as VP of Operations & Engineering for Conectiv Solutions, where he led the spin out of Conectiv to create Enerwise. His 30 year relationship with C&I energy customers started at Multi-Test Maintenance, a premier engineering service company in the Mid-Atlantic, which he bought and then sold to Delmarva Power to create the foundation for Conectiv Solutions.
Dean holds a BS in Electrical Power Engineering from Drexel University, and an AS in Electrical Engineering Technology from Pennsylvania State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in several states.
Larissa Milne Adjunct Professor
Larissa Milne loves Entrepreneurship and Travel, and is happiest when the two coincide. A former CEO of two life science startups, she and her husband Michael began traveling full-time in 2011. After selling their house and quitting their corporate jobs in Philadelphia, they took off to travel the world for what they thought would be a year. Along the way they discovered travel was their true passion, and resolved to pursue it as a both a lifestyle and a business. Six years later the Milnes are still digital nomads with no permanent address.
The Milnes' award-winning travel blog, Changes in Longitude.com, has evolved into a brand that extends to content creation and tourism advisory. They are the authors of Philadelphia Liberty Trail, an in-depth guide to Philadelphia’s historic district, and write a monthly travel column in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philly.com. Larissa continues to evaluate startup companies for Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania and is a frequent judge at business plan competitions.
Larissa is an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at The Close School. She teaches on campus annually while visiting the Philadelphia area; the rest of the year she embodies our global reach, teaching online from remote locations around the world.
Roy Carriker is a Visiting Professor at the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship. He is also a School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems senior executive in residence. Carriker serves as a trustee of the National Arts Program Foundation, is a director of The SEI Center for Advanced Studies in Management at the Wharton School, and is an advising director of Glenthorne Capital.
