    Drexel’s Biomedical Engineering and Science Institute (BMESI) and Calhoun endowment was founded with the help of Dr. Hun H. Sun

    Dr. Sun deeply believed that the power of engineering in medicine and the good that would come from merging these two disciplines.

    1998

    Drexel’s Biomedical Engineering and Science Institute was transformed into School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems by founding faculty (BIOMED)

    These interdisciplinary faculty members gave up tenure in their various departments and came together in biomedical engineering.

    Wallace H. Coulter Foundation Endowment

    Drexel became one of the six universities to earn the permanent endowment from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation to create the Coulter-Drexel Translational Research Partnership Program.

    2015

    Global Innovation Partnership Endowment

    Professor Banu Onaral created the Global Innovation Partnership endowment. This endowed initiative focuses on continuing to work on life saving solutions with academic programs and industry partners throughout the world.
