Dahrah Chekis is a project coordinator with Transition Pathways at the Autism Institute. She was born and raised in Philadelphia and is a graduate of Drexel. Her brother's autism diagnosis in 2012 inspired Dahrah to pursue opportunities in autism research and support. This journey led her to Drexel University, where she pursued studies in entrepreneurship and innovation at the Close School of Entrepreneurship. She ultimately crossed paths with Dianne Malley, a pivotal figure in her journey.

Joining the Transition Pathways team at the Autism Institute in 2019 marked a turning point for Dahrah. As a project coordinator, she works on initiatives like the Drexel Business Inclusion Center Hub at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships. The Hub helps job seekers with autism and other disabilities explore industries of interest and prepare for employment opportunities through career exploration activities, career readiness workshops and career coaching. Her role encompasses diverse tasks, from evaluating skill sets and goal setting to content creation and data analysis. Dahrah finds fulfillment in her work's impact on individuals and families.

When asked about one of her favorite moments in her work at the Autism Institute, she mentions several events her team has held over the past few years. For example, Dahrah reflected on the seven-year celebration Transition Pathways held and how the entire team came together to make a fantastic event for more than 350 past and present program participants and their families. Dahrah also spoke on productivity and how music is essential in helping her focus and stay productive: "If I'm feeling the music that morning, I'm going to be productive for about five hours straight and not even know what time it is. So, music is a big one. Music is the lifeblood of all Puerto Ricans and I guess it is the lifeblood of mine."

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dahrah's passion for community and connection radiates. Whether she's reminiscing about team events at Drexel or celebrating the successes of hiring events, her commitment to empowering others is unwavering. In her free time, she finds solace in video games, entertaining in her home for family and friends, and the tranquility of Valley Forge National Park, embodying a balance of productivity and leisure. Her warm and inclusive nature is a testament to her dedication to fostering strong connections.

When asked what advice she might have for her younger self, Dahrah offered this insight: to embrace the journey without carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. This advice reflects her own experiences and is a beacon of hope and encouragement for others. Combining her analytical mindset with her empathetic lens, she navigates life's challenges with grace, always striving to find solutions and uplift those around her. Dahrah's optimism and resilience are a testament to her belief in the power of embracing the journey.
