Bridging Opportunities: The Drexel Business Inclusion Center's Impact

Project Search Closing Ceremony

June 27, 2024

A transformative initiative is changing lives and creating inclusive work environments. The Drexel Business Inclusion Center (BIC), a collaborative effort by Transition Pathways and Community Integrated Services, has been instrumental in connecting job seekers with disabilities to meaningful employment. Since its inception in 2019, BIC has facilitated nearly 700 job placements and provided over 300 internship experiences for youth. This initiative has not only empowered individuals but also strengthened the fabric of our community.

Building Strong Employer Partnerships

The BIC's success is mainly due to its deep-rooted relationships with major city employers. Organizations like Aramark, Jefferson Hospital, the School District of Philadelphia, and Cintas have opened their doors to job seekers with disabilities, fostering inclusive workplaces that benefit everyone.

Employer Spotlight: The School District of Philadelphia

As the fourth largest employer in the city, the School District of Philadelphia has been a cornerstone of BIC's efforts. The BIC has connected nearly 100 employees with disabilities to jobs within the District, spanning roles from teaching assistants to custodial staff to office personnel. The District is committed to inclusivity through the training provided to over 250 employees on being an inclusive employer. Watch the story of the School District of Philadelphia's partnership with BIC here.

Aramark Hiring Events

Aramark has been another critical partner, hosting four hiring events supported by the BIC in December 2022, June 2023, December 2023, and June 2024. These hiring events focus on providing job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. With 650 registrants and nearly 420 attendees, the events resulted in over 150 job offers, 70 of which went to BIC-supported clients. Impressively, 46 of these clients completed onboarding across 12 Aramark sites. As of now, at least 43 of these individuals continue to thrive in their roles at Aramark. A Bright Future Ahead

Since its establishment in 2019, the BIC has trained more than 2000 individuals and engaged with more than 320 businesses. This remarkable progress is a testament to the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved. The Drexel Business Inclusion Center continues to create pathways to success, ensuring that job seekers with disabilities are not just included but are integral to the workforce.
