Expanded Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training Requirements for NSF Grant Proposals

December 20, 2023

The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) latest Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) expanded the requirements for Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RCR) training.

For NSF grant proposals submitted on or after July 31, 2023, the NSF requires all undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and other senior personnel supported by the proposed research project to complete an approved form of RCR training before any funding can be awarded.

Drexel University provides training for all researchers through the CITI training platform. If you have already completed the training within the last 4 years, we recommend associating your CITI account with Drexel University. If your previous training was not taken through CITI or you do not believe this NSF mandate applies to you, please contact Cassandra Myers, Associate Vice Provost for Research Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, to request an exception or provide alternate (non-CITI) RCR training.

Please note that failure to complete the RCR training may result in non-compliance with NSF regulations and could impact our eligibility for current and future funding opportunities.

Please see the instructions linked below for enrolling in CITI courses for RCR.
