Annual Wage Increases: Apprentices will earn wage increases as they learn new skills, experience on the job training and earn IT certifications.

National Credentials: The apprenticeship results in a nationally recognized credential from the Department of Labor certifying that the apprentice is fully qualified for their occupation.

  • Cybersecurity Support Technician

    The Cybersecurity Support Technician apprenticeship prepares you to begin working in the in-demand and high paying cybersecurity industry as a Cybersecurity Support Technician. Cybersecurity Support Technicians play an essential role in safeguarding all aspects of their employers’ information technology systems. They are tasked with monitoring, directing, containing and remediating information technology threats for the protection of computer networks and company information. Cybersecurity professionals demonstrate broad expertise and may be additionally tasked with anything from installing, administering and troubleshooting security solutions to creating security policies and training documents for colleagues.

    Over the next decade, the need for digital skills will grow by 69% and so will the need for technology professionals. Factors like cloud computing, cybersecurity and data management are contributing to an increasing need for individuals with both IT skills and experience in the field.

    Earn three CompTia® industry certifications: A+, Network + and Security + Related Technical Instruction (RTI) with three (3) Drexel University College of Computing and Informatics (CCI) courses*:

    • Introduction to Computing and Security Technology
    • Information Technology Security I
    • Network Administration I

    *These courses are part of the (CCI) Computing and Security Technology, Bachelor of Science degree program. The competencies and certifications earned in the apprenticeships have been evaluated and approved for up to 15 credits in the Computing Security and Technology (CST) degree program.

    Cybersecurity Technician Apprentice Eligibility

    • Possess a high school or high school equivalency diploma
    • Must have completed:
      • One year of entry level IT employment, internship or pre-apprenticeship or
      • Possess at least one IT industry credential or
      • Have graduated from a CTE high school; or engaged IT related extra-curricular activities
    • Test at or above a 10th grade level on a standardized Reading and Math exam

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

    We are currently not accepting new applications for the CCMA Apprenticeship Program. We expect to begin recruiting and accepting applications again in Spring 2025. If you would like to receive an email from us when recruitment begins, please CLICK HERE to submit an interest form. 

    Certified Clinical Medical Assistants are listed as one of Pennsylvania’s 2021 High Priority Occupations (HPOs2), a list generated to align workforce training and education investments with occupations that are in demand by employers, have higher skill needs and are most likely to provide family sustaining wages.

    By definition, a certified clinical medical assistant (CCMA) is any medical assistant that has received and has met the certification requirements set by the National Healthcareers Association. According to the NHA, certified clinical medical assistants are cross-trained to perform administrative and clinical duties. Some examples of duties include:

    Sample Clinical Duties

    • Taking medical histories
    • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
    • Preparing patients for examinations
    • Assisting the physician during examinations
    • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
    • Performing basic laboratory tests
    • Transmitting prescription refills as directed
    • Phlebotomy
    • Taking electrocardiograms
    • Wound care and changing dressings

    Sample Administrative Duties

    • Welcoming patients and scheduling appointments
    • Updating and filing patient medical records
    • Coding and filling out insurance forms
    • Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services
    • Handling correspondence, billing and bookkeeping

    Certified Clinical Medical Assistants can be found working in clinics, private practices, hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities across the country. With the high demands placed on healthcare facilities and the increased regulations and guidelines of the industry, certified medical assistants are more in demand than ever and the demand is expected to keep growing.

How much does an apprenticeship cost?

There is no cost to enroll and be accepted as a student apprentice*

How long is a registered apprenticeship?

Drexel’s registered apprenticeships are competency based, with most apprentices completing the apprenticeship in two years or less.

Do I need to have a degree to become an apprentice?

No. Employers are seeking talent that can work immediately, gain new skills and competencies and learn while on the job. Previous college credits, earned certifications and experience will be assessed to determine eligibility.

Workforce Development Programs
