    • UPDATE: CONCERNING EVENTS IN GERMANY, SWITZERLAND AND TURKEY

      December 20, 2016

      Yesterday, three unrelated incidents of violence took place in Europe: the truck crash in Berlin, Germany; an attack inside an Islamic prayer center in Zurich, Switzerland and the assassination of the Russian Ambassador in Ankara, Turkey. The Office of International Programs is monitoring carefully news reports about these events as well as proactive security measures that are being put in place in European countries. The University has only one known traveler in these three cities whose well being was reported yesterday not long after the incident in Berlin. These troubling events are a reminder to all Drexel travelers that acts of violence can occur indiscriminately and travelers should exercise caution during the holiday season. 


    • UPDATE: INCIDENT IN BERLIN

      December 19, 2016

      The Office of International Programs is following news reports of a truck crash into a Christmas Market in Berlin, Germany. Reports are of at least nine deaths and several injuries. It is not clear at this time if the event can be attributed to terrorists. Drexel has accounted for the one known student traveler in Berlin and is reaching out to other students in Germany. The University does not have other known travelers in Berlin.


    • UPDATE: TRAVEL ALERT FOR EUROPE

      November 21, 2016

      The US Department of State has issued a Travel Alert for Europe, highlighting an increased risk of terrorist attacks in the region during the holiday season. University travelers to Europe should review the Travel Alert and register their travel in STEP


    • UPDATE: EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI WATCH IN NEW ZEALAND

      November 13, 2016

      A series of earthquakes including a 7.0+ earthquake occurred this morning on the South Island of New Zealand and a tsunami watch is currently in effect for portions of New Zealand. Drexel currently has no known travelers in New Zealand.


    • UPDATE: DEPARTURE ORDERS IN ISTANBUL

      October 30, 2016

      The US Department of State has ordered the departure of eligible family members of US diplomats stationed at the US Consulate in Istanbul and issued an updated Travel Warning for Turkey. The Warning cites aggressive efforts by extremists to attack US citizens in areas of Istanbul as the reason for the decision. The Consulate General will remain open and is fully staffed. Drexel currently has no known travelers in Istanbul or in other locations in Turkey.  


    • UPDATE: EARTHQUAKE IN CENTRAL ITALY

      October 23, 2016

      Two earthquakes have occurred recently in Central Italy, including a 6.6 earthquake in Norcia, approximately 72 miles from Rome. The earthquakes have destroyed many buildings in the towns of Visso, Norcia and other small towns in the area. While felt in Rome, it does not appear to have caused significant damage to buildings in the city. Drexel currently has a few students in Italy, but they have not been affected by the earthquake. OIP will continue to monitor the region. 


    • UPDATE: WORLDWIDE CAUTION

      The Department of State has updated its Worldwide Caution as part of its continuing efforts to provide citizens with information about relevant events abroad, including the continuing threat for terrorist actions and violence against US citizens and interests throughout the world. University travelers should review the Worldwide Caution, particularly the regional concerns for their locations of travel and should register in STEP


    • UPDATE: EVENTS IN GERMANY

      July 25, 2016

      Over the past week, there has been a series of troubling attacks in various locations throughout Germany, including a shooting incident in a Munich mall which resulted in the death of nine people. Drexel has reached out to all known travelers in the areas affected and continues to monitor carefully events in the region and provide information and support to its travelers.


    • UPDATE: ATTEMPTED COUP IN TURKEY

      July 16, 2016

      The Office of International Programs has been monitoring the situation in Turkey, following the attempted coup in Turkey on July 15. Drexel has been in regular communication with our traveler in the region to provide support and assistance as needed. 


    • UPDATE: ATTACK IN NICE

      July 15, 2016

      Drexel Study Abroad is deeply saddened by the events that occurred last night in Nice, France and is monitoring carefully the region and sharing relevant information to our students currently studying in France and Europe. Drexel does not have any known travelers in Nice. Study Abroad has offered support to all students currently studying in France on Drexel programs.
