Mainstage Auditions

We will be auditioning for both winter shows at the same time, so you can do one audition for both productions. Also, the commitments for both are much less in the winter, one night a week until tech rehearsals so you can do both Mantua and NewWorks.

Mantua Theater Project

Mantua Theater Project is a fun collection of short plays written by young students between 10-14 from Belmont Charter School. There is a second presentation of High School Plays with Philadelphia Young Playwrights. The plays are fun and the young students love to see their work on stage, and it gives them a real boost of self-esteem.

Seeking: Approximately 16-18 actors of all genders and races to play whimsical and comic characters based on animals, objects or forces of nature in plays written by middle and high school aged students. The Philadelphia Young Playwrights readings will be cast from this group of actors.

Page to Stage NewWorks Festival

Seeking: Actors of all genders and races to work in collaboration with our Drexel Playwrights from the Page-to-Stage class on the development of new 10-minute plays.

What to prepare for BOTH AUDITIONS: Please prepare a brief contemporary monologue (20th and 21st century material is preferred) something that you love to perform - something that shows your strengths as an actor - it can be comedic or dramatic, and something you have been doing for a long time and are comfortable performing-it should be something brief (about2 minutes in length and preferably memorized). You may be asked to read from a script.

Important Details and Dates for Mantua Theater Project/Philadelphia Young Playwrights:

• Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, January 6 at 7:00 pm

• Each show will rehearse about 1- 2 hours a week in the evenings - Tuesday-Friday, 7-10 pm or Saturdays between 10am and 5pm.

• Mandatory rehearsals:

• Technical rehearsals Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 from 10 am - 8:00 pm

• Design run Saturday, January 31st from 1:00 - 5:00 pm

• Dress/Tech rehearsals Tuesday, Feb 10, Wednesday, Feb 11 from 6-11 pm

• Preview Thursday, Feb 12 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm

• Performances Friday, February 13 at 3:00 pm (for the student playwrights) and 7:00 pm, Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

• Young Playwrights Play Readings:

• Rehearsals begin Sunday, Feb 15th at 5:00 pm

• Tuesday - Friday, Feb 17-20 from 7-10pm

• Saturday, Feb 21 tech at 10:00 am, performance at 2:00 pm.

Important Details and Dates for Page to Stage NewWorks:

• Weekly rehearsals will be on Monday nights 7:00 to 10:00(subject to change)

• There will be a mandatory Full Company meeting on Monday of Week 1, from 7:00 to 10:00

• Each play will receive 1-hour of rehearsal every other week starting in Week 4

• Mandatory rehearsals:

• Dress Rehearsal Thursday March 12th from 7:00 to 10:00

• Performance #1: Friday March 13th at 7:00 pm

• Performance #2: Saturday March 14th at 7:00 pm

**Remember if you are considering taking a theater class this winter you should sign up as soon as possible. You can always drop it before the quarter begins if you change your mind, but by signing up you will keep it open so you have the option. If you need help with anything don't hesitate to reach out.
