Choral performance

Choral Ensembles

Drexel has four choral ensembles sponsored by the Department of Performing Arts

The All-College Choir is a non-auditioned, mixed voice ensemble that sings choral repertoire of many styles, genres and eras, including music of the classical tradition, jazz, spirituals, American Musical Theater, folk, and pop.

The group is open to all Drexel University students and may be taken for credit or non-credit. The choir will develop basic principles of choral singing. The All-College Choir meets Fall, Winter, and Spring terms.

Please contact Scott Bacon, director, to learn more.

The Chamber Singers is an advanced choral ensemble of 24 singers that are drawn from the University Chorus (you must be in U. C. to be considered for C. S.). The ensemble performs at the University Chorus concerts at the end of each term and may have additional on and off-campus performances. Repertoire is generally drawn from early and modern sources, focusing on Baroque cantatas and the work of living composers.

Singers may audition for Chamber Singers at the same time as their University Chorus audition, or at the end of each academic year.

Please contact Dr. Daniel Spratlan, director, for audition requirements and scheduling.

Students who join are required to register for MUSC 115 for 0 or 1 credits.

The University Chorus is an auditioned, 60-voice group for experienced choral singers which performs music from the Renaissance to today, with and without instrumental accompaniment. The ensemble has a particular goal to present newly-composed works that react to the natural, social, and political worlds in which we live. The ensemble typically performs one major on-campus program at the end of each quarter, with occasional service and off-campus concerts.

Performance Scholarships are available for this ensemble. Scholarship auditions are typically held during Accepted Students Weekends in April. Students in the University Chorus may choose to audition for Chamber Singers.
