Drexel Faculty Mentors: Antonios Kontsos
Sarah Malik is a business and engineering major with a minor in business analytics and a concentration in mechanical engineering at the LeBow College of Business. Sarah started her research journey with the STAR Scholars program with Professor Todd Von Deak in developing a new paradigm for Knowledge Sharing in the corporate environment. Shortly afterwards, she engaged in multiple research projects with Dr. Murugan Anandarajan, Professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) and Department Head of Decision Sciences and MIS, focusing on the security of IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) devices and mitigation techniques against these security threats. Sarah has also been working with Dr. Antonios Kontsos, who leads the Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Group, in the College of Engineering to create an intelligent system for autonomous structural diagnostics. Her research integrates machine learning, data structure, and the Internet of Things (IoT) architecture to enable a real-time structural health monitoring system. She has presented her research at Stanford, NASA, and other national conferences.
Along with research, Sarah has completed three co-ops at Thomson Reuters and Comcast NBCUniversal HQ. After the STAR Scholars program, Sarah was selected as an Undergraduate Research Leader (URL) and SuperNova Research Fellow to further mentor undergraduate researchers. After completing her Bachelor’s (Honors with Distinction & Summa Cum Laude), Sarah will be continuing her research with Dr. Antonios Kontsos for her PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
