Michael’s interest in helping at-risk populations and those who experience traumatic events thrive began when he attended a high school based in Spanish Harlem, New York (a low income urban neighborhood). Intrigued at the prospect of helping others through scientific research, he first joined the New York University School of Medicine as a Research Assistant in the Department of Psychiatry, coordinating multiple studies on risk factors and treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Michael is currently a second year graduate student in clinical psychology, where he conducts research on risk factors for pediatric and adult PTSD and ADHD. He uses this research to inform his work on the implementation of psychosocial school-based interventions for at-risk youth in low income areas. Michael will use his APAGS/Psi Chi Junior Scientist Fellowship to fund his work in examining risk factors for PTSD. His career goals include research into risk factors for and the etiology of PTSD and trauma-related symptoms to inform science, policy, and practice.
