Kevin Knehr

Kevin is currently a senior pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics. He has been working as an undergraduate researcher in the Electrochemical Energy Systems Laboratory at Drexel for over two years. During that time, his research has focused on vanadium redox flow batteries, a next generation electrochemical system that has the potential to increase the use of renewable energy by providing efficient, cost-effective, and reliable energy storage solutions.  In particular, Kevin has worked on developing a 2-dimensional macroscopic model which predicts the performance of a flow battery and can be used to identify the major factors limiting the performance of these systems.

Along with the Goldwater Scholarship and NSF-GRFP Fellowship, Kevin’s flow battery research has also led him to participate in the Hess Undergraduate Scholars Research Program and the NSF sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates Program at Drexel University. In the future, Kevin plans on attending graduate school where he can pursue his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in electrochemistry and energy storage technologies.
