Justin Mathew
PhD Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics '13
I am a PhD student conducting diabetes related bio-mechanical research in the vascular kinetics laboratory. After receiving my BS/MS degree in Biomedical Engineering, I worked for Johnson & Johnson on the One Touch Ping device. Realizing that I wanted to do more than just maintain the disease, I contacted Dr. Alisa Morss Clyne and immediately began looking into the underlying problems of diabetes directly.
I have been awarded the DAAD RISE Pro fellowship to intern in Freiburg, Germany for 5.5 months at ProQinase, a leading research facility in cancer research. Here I will learn in depth about isolating protein cascade pathways that are involved in cancer, and possibly expose crossover between the two diseases. With this opportunity I hope to apply what I have learned to completing my PhD at Drexel.
I will also use this opportunity to explore Europe and make connections that will last a lifetime!
