Isaac Adams began working with Dr. Frank Ji during the beginning of 2014 on analyzing the effects, using nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry, of treating small biomolecules with plasma. By spring of 2014, and during his time participating in the 2014 STAR program, he was working on using plasma to degrade antibiotics in solution in order that it may replace conventional treatment methods for a faster, more effective, and cheaper alternative for keeping antibiotics out of the environment. This research gave Isaac the opportunity to work with advanced instruments and hone his interest in doing more research with plasma. Isaac spent his first co-op in fall 2014 doing excipient compatibility experiments and research at Johnson and Johnson. In summer 2015, he plans to work with Dr. Ji again, focusing more on the materials science and engineering perspective in order to prepare for graduate work in that field.
