BS/MS Materials Science Engineering '14

I am currently a senior in the BS/MS program studying Materials Science and Engineering, and I plan to continue my education with a PhD in this field. I am working with Dr. Caroline Schauer to electrospin polymer nanofibers for use as heavy metal ion water filtration membranes. I started working with Dr. Schauer during my freshman year and I also participated in the STAR program as a freshman. In addition to research, I am really interested in encouraging minority groups to pursue careers in STEM fields and I hope to continue my involvement in outreach activities throughout my graduate education. I have been pursuing a minor in French and I hope to gain some international experience during my PhD. There are many programs available for NSF fellows to travel abroad and collaborate internationally. I plan to take advantage of these opportunities to begin creating an international research network for my future career in research and to practice my real-life French language skills.
