Deborah Kapilow

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship 2017-22

PhD candidate Mechanical Engineering

Drexel faculty mentor: Matthew McCarthy

Deborah received her BS/MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel in June 2016. Shortly after graduation, she returned to Drexel to pursue a PhD in Mechanical Engineering while working in the Multiscale Thermofluidics Laboratory. Her research thus far has focused on the development of high-performance dry cooling technologies in power plants to prevent water loss. She also wrote a Master’s Thesis on the experimental characterization of the melting and freezing of encapsulated phase-change materials under convective boundary conditions. Her PhD will focus on the use of spatial ordering of flow fields to create thermal gradients during nucleate boiling to enhance phase-change heat transfer.
