Christine Chung

Christine Chung is currently a 4th year medical student at Drexel. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005 with a B.S. Biology, she moved back to her hometown of Bethesda, MD to work in the lab of Dr. Lance R. Pohl at the National Institutes of Health as an Intramural Research Training Award Fellow. The following year, she moved to Philadelphia to join the Drexel IMS Post-baccalaureate program. During her time as a medical student at Drexel, she coordinated one of the student-run free health clinics, tutored and mentored junior classmates, and participated as an elected student representative on the Admissions Committee. One of the most formative experiences of her medical school career was being selected as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow, which enabled her to spend a lot of time with the women at the Eliza Shirley Emergency Shelter in downtown Philadelphia, understanding their personal as well as systematic barriers to better health. Toward the end of her third year of medical school, she decided she wanted to take a year out to do clinical research. She will spend the upcoming year in the lab of Dr. Christian Schulze at the Columbia New York Presbyterian Hospital studying clinical as well as molecular aspects of heart failure. Her future goals are to study chronic diseases, such as heart failure and diabetes, which have a disproportionate impact on the health of the poor and underprivileged.
