Amalie Donius
Material Science and Engineering PhD, 2012
Amalie is a Ph.D. student in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. She works in the Biomimetic Design Group. As an NSF-EAPSI Fellow, Amalie will travel to Kyoto University in Uji, Kyoto, Japan to work with Dr. Hiroyuki Yano and his laboratory in the summer of 2012.
To apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship I filled out an electronic application, submitted my official academic transcripts, asked three people to electronically submit letters of reference on my behalf, had my GRE scores sent, submitted a proposed research plan, a personal statement, and a previous research experience essay. Since the NSF GRFP is so competitive, the application process takes a lot of time and effort.
