Madeleine Pelchat, AIChE-DVS Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Aspire Scholar, Madeleine Pelchat, who has been selected for the 2018 AIChE-DVS Scholarship for Excellence in Technical Writing on Sustainability and the Environment -- the first Drexel student to receive this award!

Maddie (BS Chemical Engineering ’21, Honors) is currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering with a Biological Engineering concentration. She hopes to use this degree to apply chemical engineering solutions to environmental issues. Maddie began conducting research her freshman year at Drexel through Dr. Christopher Sales’ lab. Her research focuses on large-scale algae systems and the removal of nitrogen from landfill leachate. She is also the Outreach Chair for the Drexel chapter of the Sierra Club, an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, and a 2017-18 Aspire Scholar. Outside of Drexel, Maddie is a soprano in an adult choir based in Ardmore.


The American Institute of Chemical Engineers - Delaware Valley Section (AIChE-DVS) serves Philadelphia and Wilmington; and the surrounding area in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. AIChE-DVS presents Awards to professionals and students for their outstanding work in the Chemical Engineering field. The AIChE-DVS Scholarship for Excellence in Technical Writing on Sustainability and the Environment is awarded to one sophomore or junior enrolled in one of six chemical engineering programs in the region. In addition to a monetary award, the scholarship recipient presents as the keynote speaker at the Annual Academic Awards Banquet.
