Peer Mentors
If you're an undergraduate student in your second*, third, fourth, or fifth year at Drexel, then you're invited to take advantage of this exciting opportunity to mentor New Dragons as an Ascent Peer Mentor with the Center for Inclusive Education (CIES).
Qualifications
To become a Peer Mentor, one must be:
- An undergraduate student who has completed at least one full year (three academic quarters) at Drexel
- Able to commit eight (8) hours of time to the program per quarter
- Looking to give back to the Drexel community, lift as you climb, and be excited to become a part of a vibrant and supportive community
*Second-year students may choose to join Ascent as a Mentor or a Mentee, depending on your personal goals and comfort level supporting another student.
Requirements
- Attend in-person, on campus events.
- Attend Peer Mentor training (only required for new Peer Mentors).
- Attend Ascent Introductory Meeting to meet your Mentee(s) in person.
- Ensure face-to-face meetings with Mentee(s) are taking place twice per quarter.
- Attend Ascent end-of-term dinner.
- Provide feedback via online surveys.
- Complete a five-minute survey after every meeting with Mentee.
- Provide feedback to CIES professional staff and Ascent Leadership Team regarding your experience with Ascent through a 10-minute survey at the end of the quarter.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with Ascent Leadership Team.
Training
Training provides Ascent Mentors with the relevant tools, skills, and resources to feel confident in supporting their Mentee(s). The two-hour, required training session focuses on community building, building positive Peer Mentor-Mentee relationships, and insuring that Mentors understand both CIES and Drexel expectations. Once you have been trained, you can renew your involvement in the program and do not have to attend future training sessions.
Benefits
- All Mentors receive a stipend of $30 DragonDollars (per quarter, per Mentee) to treat their Mentee(s) to coffee or a meal during your required meet-ups.
- Build your network on campus, within Ascent and in CIES as a whole.
- All Ascent participants are eligible to receive all resources and support offered by CIES, including but not limited to:
- Participation in developmental events offered throughout the academic year.
- Access to CIES' collaborative study spaces located on the first floor of MacAlister Hall.
- Access to CIES' physical resources from our Lending Library: textbooks, laptops, lab coats, and other student necessities.
As a Peer Mentor, you will have the opportunity to:

- Enhance cultural awareness and strengthen communication skills.
- Learn new academic, professional, and leadership development skills.

- Take advantage of additional leadership opportunities with Ascent, such as:
- Students who have served as Mentors for one full cycle may apply for available positions on the Ascent Leadership Team. These are paid work opportunities for students to get even more involved and support the program management alongside CIES professional staff.
