  • Is a $15 Minimum Wage Enough?

    Center staff member Natalie Shaak was quoted in an article exploring if a $15 minimum wage is a sufficient wage floor.

    Discussing data from a the Center's 2021 brief, she shared that $15 isn't enough, given living costs such as housing, child care and food. "Even in the lowest-cost-of-living state, which would be Mississippi, people are still not going to be able to live on $15 an hour."

    Even the higher "living wages" that are shared do not taking into account people being able to save for an emergency, buy a house so they're no longer renting, or develop any kind of wealth to pull themselves out of poverty," Shaak said.
