CREATIVE COMPUTING: A Talk by Dr. Jusub Kim - Academy Award-winning creative technologist & director of the Creative Computing Group at Sogang University in South Korea.
Talk Abstract:
In this talk, I am going to give a brief overview of creative computing and its applications. Creative computing is an interdisciplinary field of arts, creativity, and computer science. It includes a variety of new creative explorations of computing in arts, entertainment, and culture such as live animation, interactive memories, VR/AR performance, brain-computer Interface based arts, machine-learning based generative choreography, etc. I will introduce the creative projects that I have been involved in the recent years and also the art & technology undergraduate and graduate program at Sogang University.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Jusub Kim is a creative technologist, artist, researcher, and educator in the intersection of art and technology. His work focuses on the creative uses of computing and the new interactive systems that create new values in the arts, culture, and entertainment. Previously, he worked at the R&D Team of Rhythm & Hues Studios in Los Angeles and contributed to the productions of about a dozen major Hollywood feature films including Life of PI which won the best visual effects Oscar in the 85th Academy award. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park. He served as the founding chair of department of Art & Technology from 2012 to 2017. He is currently an associate professor of Art & Technology and directing Creative Computing Group at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea.
