Presenting the 2023 Annual Report on Anti-Racism Commitments
Dear Members of the Drexel Community,
The Office for Institutional Equity and Inclusive Culture (EIC) is pleased to present the 2023 annual report of the University’s progress toward its anti-racism commitments, marking two full years into the implementation of Drexel’s anti-racism journey. The report includes three key areas: 1) implementation and success monitoring update, which focuses on data documenting representation and climate; 2) highlights of unit activities addressing the 64 commitments; and 3) next steps in the implementation and success-monitoring process.
As a reminder and for those who are new to Drexel, the University made 64 commitments toward becoming an anti-racist institution in 2021, over a year after the establishment of the Anti-Racism Task Force (ARTF). The commitments – groups into two macro themes: Demographic Representation, and Culture and Climate – are based on more than 200 recommendations outlined by the ARTF’s 11 committees, and they are integrated with the Drexel 2030 Strategic Plan. The commitments are detailed on the Toward an Anti-Racist Drexel webpage.
Please note the EIC website now has a page dedicated to archiving these anti-racism annual reports. And for a deeper dive into demographic representation data, please see the recently updated Anti-Racism Demographic Dashboards.
I want to thank the anti-racism implementation and success monitoring group for their work in tracking our progress and putting together this annual report. I also want to acknowledge all the units and individuals who are taking action – in big ways and small – to strengthen Drexel by making it a more inclusive, equitable and welcoming University community. I encourage you to read this report to learn about the progress we have made, although much work remains to be done. More importantly, I invite you to stay engaged as we continue our efforts to maintain an inclusive and welcoming campus environment.
As always, we invite you to share your questions, suggestions or comments by emailing us at anti-racism@drexel.edu.
Sincerely,
Kimberly J. Gholston
Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer
