2022 W-2 Error Impacting Some Drexel Faculty and Professional Staff

The Payroll Department has been alerted to an error that has resulted in some faculty and professional staff members’ receiving notices of tax due from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in relation to their 2022 income tax return filings.  You are receiving this message because our records indicate you have been impacted by the error but may not have received a notification from the IRS.

An administrative error in Drexel’s employer filings provided to the IRS for 2022 has resulted in a discrepancy between the taxable income reported by Drexel to the IRS and the correct amounts recorded on employees’ W-2 forms. The Payroll Department made corrections in January 2023 that we thought addressed this error, but recently learned from employees who received a notification from the IRS, that the issue remained outstanding. On August 22, 2024, the Payroll Department filed an amendment with the IRS through our payroll tax agent, ADP, to fully correct the issue.

If you receive a notice from the Internal Revenue Service, please contact payroll@drexel.edu and we will provide you with a letter explaining the issue that you can provide to the IRS. The Payroll Department is currently working to provide individualized letters to each impacted individual with details about the errors W-and corrections.

We apologize for this error and any undue stress it may have caused.
