Bio:
After more than a decade as a daily newspaper journalist, including serving as editor of the family section at the Pocono Record, I moved to the Express newspaper in Easton, Pennsylvania, and spent eight years as a medical and science reporter, I earned my master’s degree in journalism at Temple and then entered academia. I’ve taught undergraduate and graduate students for more than 35 years, including the last 27 at Drexel, where I started as an adjunct before being hired as a teaching professor in 2001. I was promoted to full teaching professor in 2018. I was one of the first professors to develop and teach an online course at Drexel in 2008. My areas of expertise include basic and investigative journalism, science writing, copy editing, business communication and mass media and society, both online and face-to-face. In addition to my time in the classroom, I serve as the assistant department head in the Department of Communication, vet and hire adjuncts, mediate student and professor grading disputes, and participate in the Department of Communication’s Executive Advisory Committee. Finally, I have served as the director of the department’s capstone course, the two-term senior project—for the past 15 years and worked with hundreds of students as they choose advisors and complete detailed projects that reflect their areas of interest, including podcasts, events, PR campaigns, feature stories, research papers, blogs, and websites.
