Since 2013, the Center has hosted quarterly meetings of leaders across the city to review a case of a young person who has been a survivor of violence. The goals of this initiative is to create a forum for collaboration among systems that serve young victims of violence. The Injury Review Panel stems from the realization that different systems rarely have the opportunity to identify opportunities for collaboration using the specific case of a young person who has been injured. While such approaches have in the past been used to identify the circumstances of youth who have been fatally injured, our goal is to move the process upstream to identify opportunities to help youth who have survived violence while also generating critical policy insights.

At each meeting, we present the case of the young victim of violence to the group and each panel member speaks to how their system responded to meet the needs of this young person. Through the injury reviews, we have created a unique opportunity for engagement across systems - one which members value deeply - while also identifying important policy opportunities. Discussion of specific cases is aimed to identify gaps in services, opportunities for preventative intervention, and to generate recommendations for policy change across systems to improve services to at-risk youth as well as, recommendations to aide in case management.
