Operating Room

Three health care professionals look at operating room equipment, manikin on operating table

As you participate in the experiential learning activities in the SIM lab spaces, one distinctive opportunity is to learn to practice in a fully equipped Operating Room (OR). With dedicated and expert faculty, gain the essential skills necessary to care for patients within the critical OR space. A team approach is necessary to improve patient care and outcomes, which is why this dedicated space is equipped for collaborative learning in a safe environment. If you are considering a career as a medical-surgical nurse, a nurse anesthetist, or a perioperative nurse, this setting of care is of great importance.

In the OR, future health care leaders will learn to complete pre-and post-operative briefing, how to set up a basic OR room, including the placement of the patient, safety protocols for both equipment and specimens, and airway management.
