Cody A. Ray
President of Drexel Smart House, 2008 - 2011
Cody Ray was a past Drexel Smart House President from 2008 to 2011, and was responsible for leading the organization to much of its success. During his time at Drexel Smart House, Cody worked on many large projects. He paved the way for huge advances such as the Interdisciplinary Smart Initiatives Minor (DSH Minor). Cody also talked to many prospective and actual donors, including a donation of $1.1M from Drexel President John Fry. He has worked with the Provost to get the first DSH STAR scholars, and has even got the organization on Forbes a few times! One of the most long-lasting influences Cody has had on the organization was the establishing of a seed fund, which still to this day helps to fund entrepreneurial spirit throughout Drexel. He currently works as a Software Engineer/Site Reliability Engineer for Confluent, designing Confluent Cloud, which is quickly emerging as the dominant Kafka-as-a-Service platform.
Maxime Damis
President of Drexel Smart House, 2016 - 2017
Maxime Damis was a past Drexel Smart House President during the 2016-2017 academic year, as well as held many previous positions with the organization during her five year involvement. She joined the organization the first day of Freshman year and never left! Maxime primarily worked on the Lightweight Green Roof which had received a $75,000 EPA P3 Award. Maxime started her work on this project through the STAR Scholars program, and eventually went on to work on the project throughout her time at Drexel, leading up to her Senior Design project, in which she finalized the second prototype and constructed/tested the lightweight growing modules. She currently works as a Water Resources Design Engineer at Johnson Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT), working on projects across the country to design everything from local green stormwater infrastructure to highway drainage systems.
Patrick T. Hoffman
Vice President of Drexel Smart House, 2008 - 2010
Patrick Hoffman is a past Drexel Smart House Vice President. During his time at Drexel Smart House, Patrick has worked on several large endeavors that have been extremely important to DSH’s development. From a research side, he has worked on the the Lightweight Green Roof project which had received a $75,000 EPA P3 Award. From an organizational development perspective, Patrick assisted in both the First and Second design competitions, as well as helped secure our past partnership with PD&C. He now works as the Head of Product and Enterprise at Udacity, “an online learning platform offering groundbreaking programs in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, as well as app and web development, digital marketing, and more. ”
Kara H. Wilson
Participant of the Interdisciplinary Design Competition at Drexel Smart House, 2008
Kara Wilson was a member of the cross-disciplinary design team that worked on designing the house and incorporating potential pilot projects into the fabric of the renovated building. This team included students from various majors: architecture, interior design, structural and mechanical engineering, acoustics, digital media, and entrepreneurship that together generated the original design plans, presentations, and videos to help promote and propel Drexel Smart House within the Drexel community as well as to outside organizations that might be interested in collaborating. While at Drexel Smart House, Kara also had the opportunity to take the then newly-appointed President Fry on a tour of the house pre-stabilization. She currently works as an architect and Passive House consultant at the design/build firm Onion Flats.
