Austin Gentry has been a member of the Drexel University Symphony Orchestra for 5 seasons. A Double Bass player, he participated in the Orchestra during his undergrad years while completing a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2017. He is now working towards a PhD in Computer Science and enjoys the opportunity that rehearsal affords each week to take a break from the screen and keyboard. Austin has also performed with the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra in Richmond VA, where he was principle, has volunteered for 5 season with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Program as a section mentor, and has played for 4 years of musicals with the Drexel Theater department.

The Drexel University Symphony Orchestra is a diverse group of students from across different majors and backgrounds. It offers students who aren’t pursuing a career as a classical musician a supportive yet challenging environment to connect with peers. Austin has enjoyed the variety of opportunities afforded by the vibrant musical community both at Drexel and in Greater Philadelphia. Music remains an important part of his life, and he hopes to continue to volunteer and share it with others in a way that makes a positive impact.
