Record Number of Critical Language Scholarship Applicants

December 5, 2022

We are pleased to announce a record number of applicants for the 2023 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. Twelve students from across the university applied to study languages including Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish. These eleven undergraduate students and one graduate student represent nine different fields of study and seven Drexel schools and colleges.

Congratulations to these students on submitting their applications! We wish them the best of luck in the national competition.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in 14 critical foreign languages. Participants spend 8-10 weeks abroad over the summer, undertaking intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences. CLS is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity.
