Cancer Caucus

On October 5th, 2021, David Wilson, Vice President of Government and Community Relations, lead a discussion among the members of the Pennsylvania House Cancer Caucus and the Pennsylvania Cancer Alliance on the value of the Commonwealth Universal Research Enhancement (CURE) program. More than a dozen legislators attended this conversation including the Chair, Representative Valerie Gaydos of Allegheny County. The CURE program, established in 2001 as part of the Commonwealth’s Tobacco Settlement Act, awards grants to Pennsylvania-based organizations for biomedical, clinical and health services research. The Pennsylvania Cancer Alliance is a coalition of the state’s leading research institutions which work to support the allocation of a portion of the proceeds of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement between various tobacco companies and states more than two decades ago to cancer research.
