Act 93 Legislation
On October 24th, 2018, Governor Wolf signed into law Act 93 which provides for reimbursement of patient expenses associated with participation in cancer clinical trials. This law further clarifies what expenses are reimbursable during cancer clinical trials, thereby establishing a means to create parity in clinical trial access and remove a barrier to participation for financially burdened patient-subjects.
Additionally, Act 93 mandates that a third-party nonprofit corporation or public charity that specializes in assisting cancer patients and increasing enrollment, retention and minority participation in cancer clinical trials register with a department-approved Pennsylvania college or university with a school of public health and annually (prior to July 1) report the names of donors of $5,000 or more to the third-party reimbursement entity.
With that in mind, Drexel University has been designated by the Department of Health to manage the registration process of third-party entities per the requirements of Act 93.
