Housing and Transportation FAQs
When is a good time to move to Philadelphia?
Typically, students arrive in either July or August. Orientation begins mid-August, so you will definitely want to be settled in by then. Philadelphia is great for sightseeing, so arriving earlier allows you the opportunity to enjoy the city. The Office of Admissions also hosts several summer events you won’t want to miss!
What is public transportation like?
The local mass transit agency, SEPTA, has a variety of public transit services, including the regional rail system which allows direct access to Center City from points throughout the region. (P.S.…the time you spend commuting on the train can be some of the best reading and studying time!) You can also pre-purchase monthly passes directly from Drexel, through the ComPass System, using Drexel One (under the “Students” tab). You will receive a 10% discount on your monthly pass. Monthly passes are honored on the regional rail systems, as well as on the Market-Frankford subway, the trolleys, buses, and all other SEPTA services. This is particularly useful if you don’t feel like walking from 30th Street Station, or need to run downtown for an interview.
If I chose not to use public transportation, are there parking passes available?
Are there other transportation options?
Yes. Philadelphia is a great city for biking. There are bike racks right outside the law school. If you do not own a bike, the Drexel Bike Share is open to all students with a valid Drexel University ID.
You can also take advantage of Drexel's partnership with PhillyCarShare or Zipcar, which offers discounted membership rates to students. Visit Drexel Parking Services for more information.
