About Learning Innovation
Learning Innovation Conversations
ExCITe is bringing national thought leaders to Philadelphia to speak to innovative learning practice and the potential of transdisciplinary learning. We've hosted John Maeda, Mimi Ito, and Leah Buechley, each of whom shared thoughts on the importance of mentors, tapping creative potential through making, and being intentional when thinking about inclusion while innovating in learning. To see clips of their conversations with ExCITe Director Youngmoo Kim, please visit ExCITe's youtube channel.
Additional conversations will be held throughout 2017 and we hope you’ll sign up so we can let you know how to attend, and to give us feedback to help shape the program.
National Research Survey
ExCITe is visiting and surveying maker and learning spaces across the country over the next year to understand and document their scope of activities and how they contribute to the development of their communities, including:
- What new innovative practices and pedagogies associated with the products and processes of making can be identified?
- What do participants learn and how do learning features help to define patterns and broader classes of maker spaces?
- Who participates, how do they engage, and how are relationships initiated and sustained?
ExCITe will share findings with practitioners, researchers, and the public through this site over the course of the next year.
Pilot Activities
ExCITe is planning student-focused pilot programs at Drexel as testing grounds for practical implementation of novel learning approaches, methods, and technologies, as well as to advance the knowledge and distribution of the outcomes from the Conversations and National Survey. These include support for exploratory Drexel Student co-ops in 2017 and alterations and activations to ExCITe’s facilities to demonstrate potential models for classroom innovation.
The program is still evolving. Information will be added as it becomes available.
