Session 1: From Position Request to Posting: Building a Strong Hiring Foundation

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 | Noon - 1:30 p.m.

Explore the University's hiring process from multiple perspectives, including Human Resources, Budget, and the hiring departments. Participants will discuss PageUp, position descriptions, position budgeting, and business case forms while sharing experiences, identifying common challenges, and exploring opportunities to improve collaboration and streamline the hiring process.

Session 2: Position Budgeting Best Practices

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 | Noon - 1:30 p.m.

Take a deeper dive into the University's position budgeting process, including Web Budget and journal workflows. This collaborative workshop will provide an opportunity to clarify roles and responsibilities and identify ways to make budgeting processes more efficient and transparent across the institution.

Session 3: Managing Labor Activity: Corrections, Grants, and Payroll Processes

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 | Noon - 1:30 p.m.

Join colleagues from HRIS and Research Accounting Services to discuss labor redistributions, grant labor budgeting, effort reporting, ePAFs, and grant continuation processes. Through open discussion and shared problem-solving, participants will examine common challenges, exchange best practices, and identify opportunities to strengthen coordination between departments.

Key Topics: Labor redistributions (grant and non-grant related), grant labor budgets, effort reporting, ePAFs, grant continuation tool, and committed percent effort impact.

Session 4: Closing the Employee Lifecycle: Managing Employee Separations

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 | Noon - 1:30 p.m.

The final workshop focuses on the financial and administrative processes associated with employee separations, including retirements, severance, cost share entries, late transfers, ePAF responsibilities, and payroll impacts. Participants will reflect on lessons learned throughout the series while collaborating on ideas to improve communication, consistency, and cross-functional support during these critical transitions.

Key Topics: Journal workflow for cost share entries and late transfers; ePAF responsibilities; impact of late ePAF submissions; vacation and severance payout defaults vs. VRIP tenure-track.

Certificate of Completion

Participants who attend all four workshop sessions will receive a Finance Employee Engagement Workforce Lifecycle Workshop Series Certificate of Completion in recognition of their commitment to professional development, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous learning.  This certificate program is open to benefits-eligible faculty and professional staff.

Registration Information

• Register for each workshop individually through Career Pathway.
• To receive certificate credit, participants must also register separately for the overall certificate program.
• Once all four workshops have been completed, the certificate will appear on the participant's Career Pathway transcript.
