Medical Cannabis Research Center at Drexel Announces Additional Pilot Study Award for 2023-2024
September 25, 2023
A new clinical study has been funded by the Medical Cannabis Research Center (MCRC) as part of its 2023-24 pilot funding cycle designed to stimulate innovative research on medical cannabis across Drexel University.
“Investigating the Analgesic Potential of Cannabidiol Combinations for Chronic Neuropathic Pain,” conducted by Dr. Mitchell Nothem of The Barker Lab in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at the Drexel University College of Medicine, will investigate the effects of chronic administration of cannabidiol (CBD) combined with cannabigerol (CBG) and/or cannabichromine (CBC) on chronic neuropathic pain in mice. While CBD has been the subject of studies for chronic neuropathic pain, minor cannabinoids such as CBC, CBG and combinations of them, have not. This study aims to provide preclinical evidence of analgesic effects of cannabidiol combinations that could lead to future clinical trials in human subjects.
