Drexel University Integrated Anatomical Sciences Lab

The new Gross Anatomy Laboratory at the Drexel University Health Sciences Building is a central location for students from the College of Medicine and College of Nursing and Health Professions to immerse themselves in anatomy using various hands-on cadaveric and virtual learning tools and spaces.

What is a Gross Anatomy Laboratory?

Gross Anatomy is the study of the larger structures of the body, those visible without the aid of magnification. A gross anatomy lab, also known as an anatomical or human dissection lab, is a specialized facility within medical institutions where healthcare professionals and students study human anatomy hands-on through the examination of donated and preserved human bodies. These labs are vital to medical education, offering a realistic and immersive environment where learners delve into the complexities of human anatomy and practice surgical skills under the supervision of skilled instructors.

Harriett Cole's Legacy

The "Harriett" Dissection
"The story of Harriet Cole allows us to examine how the ethics around body donation, consent, and bodily autonomy have changed over time, and to explore why gaps and erasures in history may exist"

Drexel University Body Donor Program

Our students benefit from the generous act of whole-body donation. The gift of body donation plays a critical role in helping medical and health-professional students master the complex anatomy of the human body and provides researchers with an essential tool for making discoveries to aid in advancing medical science. Please visit our Drexel Body Donation Information page for more information about the Drexel whole-body donation program. Please visit the Humanity Gift Registry for more information about Body Donation in Pennsylvania.
