Night of the Arts

Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 2:00pm – 9:00pm
Kicking off our exciting week of Senior shows is our 4th Annual Night of the Arts hosted by Drexel University’s Entertainment and Arts Society. This event aims to celebrate and showcase student art, design, media and music pieces from across the University, including senior projects from Entertainment & Arts Management. This year, Night of the Arts will be held on June 1st, 2019 from 2:00-9:00 PM in our URBN Annex located at 3401 Filbert Street. Tickets are free for Drexel students, alumni and faculty, and five dollars for general admission. Night of the Arts will feature live music, theatre, dance performances, film screenings of student films and visual artwork. A full list of artists and a schedule of performers will be released before the event. There will also be raffles for arts and entertainment events in the Philadelphia area and complimentary refreshments.

Fashion Design

Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 4:00pm and 8:00pm
One of Westphal’s most dazzling year-end traditions is the Drexel Fashion Show, with two shows at the Urban Outfitters Headquarters in the Philadelphia Navy Yard on Saturday, June 1st. Tickets are now on sale for the annual event, which showcases the work of undergraduate and graduate Fashion Design students and features professional models. All aspects of the show’s production are organized by Design & Merchandising majors who also create the award-winning D&M Magazine. Last year’s show brought garments inspired by fantasy realms, big top circuses, and street style to the runway; this year promises more wonders. Digital Media

Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 at 2:00pm show and 4:00pm Expo
Join us on Sunday, June 2nd at 2pm at International House Philadelphia (3701 Chestnut St.) for the Digital Media Senior Showcase and Expo. The show features innovative work from 20 senior projects in our top-rated programs: Animation & Visual Effects, Game Design & Production, Interactive Digital Media, and Virtual Reality & Immersive Media. Seniors will present their year-long capstone projects during the Senior Showcase, 2-4PM in IHouse’s Ibrahim Theater. After the stage event there will be an Expo of work from the seniors, undergraduates, and grad students, 4-6PM in IHP Galleries. RSVP for the screening here.

Music Industry

Monday, June 3rd, 2019 at 10:00am – 4:00pm
Join us on Monday, June 3 from 10:00am to 4:00pm for the Music Industry program’s Undergraduate Research Day. Our MIP Seniors will present their research on the music industry and audio production in the new music industry recording studios and labs. This event will feature projects that explore music marketing, production, therapy, equipment design, and the social impact of music. Coffee and donuts will be served at 10:00am and a lunch will be served at 1:00pm. The presentations will take place at One Drexel Plaza, Music Industry Program Recording Studios and Labs (3025 Market Street, Suite 20). This is event is free and open to the public.

Product Design

Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 at 5:00-8:00pm
The Product Design senior class will exhibit their work in a showcase titled Exploded View: Warping the Grid of Social Design. In a world where we are surrounded by technology, computer-generated images, and fake news, the Class of 2019 examines the reality of major social problems to design a better future. This exhibition includes 14 individual thesis projects covering topics including homelessness, education, community, virtual reality, sustainability and play. Held on Tuesday, June 4th from 5-8pm in the Pearlstein Gallery located at 3401 Filbert Street. Refreshments will be provided, and admission is free.

Design and Merchandising

Thursday, June 6th, 2019 at 6:00 - 8:00pm
The second annual Design & Merchandising Senior Sendoff and Showcase will be held on Thursday, June 6th from 6-8pm in the URBN Center Lobby. Fifty-one graduating Design & Merchandising students will have the opportunity to interact with alumni, industry professionals, and faculty. Seniors will exhibit a variety of work from across the fashion and lifestyle goods industries, as well as this year’s edition of the award-winning lifestyle magazine D&M.

Photography

Friday, June 7th, 2019 at 6:00pm
Through an intensive nine-month thesis process, the Photography seniors have completed a diverse body of work that includes portraiture, fashion, sports, landscape and fine art, in color as well as in black and white. Thesis projects will be on view in the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery with an opening reception on Friday, June 7th at 6pm. Paul Runyon, Photography Program Director, notes that the wide range of work represents a core philosophy of the program: the premise that photographers today are creating both fine art and applied or commercial work simultaneously.

Screenwriting & Playwriting

Thursday, June 13th at 11:00am
The second annual Screenwriting & Playwriting Senior Showcase will be held on Monday, June 13th at 11am in the Large Screening Room of University Crossings. Graduating students will deliver TED-style talks on their artistic journeys at Drexel that led them to their senior capstone projects. A reception will follow immediately with light refreshments.

Graphic Design

Thursday, June 13th for Private Industry 6:00 - 7:30 PM and Public Reception 7:30 - 9:00pm
This year’s show offers the opportunity to see impressive thesis projects and work in motion graphics, web design, museum and environmental signage, book design, corporate identity and more, and to meet our gifted new Graphic Design graduates. Two of the GDUSA 2019 "Students to Watch,” Amanda Christian and Kaci Kwiatek, will show off some of the bold work that earned them national recognition. The Graphic Design Senior Show is Thursday, June 13th. There will be a private industry reception from 6:00 -7:30pm and a reception for the general public from 7:30-9:00pm in the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery.

Interior Design

Friday, June 13th, 2019 at 6:00 – 9:00pm
The Drexel Interiors Group (DIG) will host the 2019 Interior Design Senior Showcase of the best work from the graduating class, including their senior projects, on Thursday, June 13th from 6-9pm in the URBN Center Lobby. The seniors will present projects from across the interior design spectrum. This includes hospitality, healthcare, commercial and residential design, as well as works of fine art including paintings, sculptures, furniture designs, and more. As is tradition, faculty will present awards to several outstanding seniors at the end of the evening. The Interior Design Alumni board will be in attendance to deliver the award for best portfolio. The reception will include a raffle to win items donated by furniture dealers, manufacturers and local businesses that support the interior design industry.

Film & Television

Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at 11:00am
The fun begins at 11am on Saturday, June 15th at International House, where Film & Television seniors will screen their projects. In this year’s comedies, a botched take-out sandwich pushes a man over the edge, a disgruntled bowling alley employee finds the ultimate ‘break-up’ option, soccer moms dabble in the occult to help their kids, a young man pursues his dream date, and newbie interns take on the L.A. music scene. Experimental films tackle sexual identity, women’s empowerment, and psychosomatic illness. Enter the world of fantasy with friends fighting over magical gemstones, and a weird infliction for the lovelorn. On the drama side, you’ll meet a middle-schooler who challenges the social norms, a father facing his demons as he comes to terms with his son’s illness, and more.

Animation Festival

This year’s Animation Festival features a diverse array of projects created by seniors majoring in Animation & Visual Effects, Game Design & Production, and minoring in Virtual Reality & Immersive Media. Projects include animated shorts, detailed real-time visualizations, Virtual Reality experiences, visual effects technical demos, blended live action/VFX short films and more!
