Associate Professor and Urban Strategy program director Andrew Zitcer gave a talk at the University of Pennsylvania’s Kelly Writer’s House to discuss the launch of his recently published book Practicing Cooperation: Mutual Aid Beyond Capitalism (University of Minnesota Press 2021).

Associate Professor of Art & Art History Linda Kim delivered a virtual talk at the University of Texas at Dallas on February 6th titled “Misunderstanding Art and Science in The Races of Mankind.” The Visual Cultures of Race and Science was a special two-day event sponsored by the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies, UT Dallas School of Arts and Humanities, and the Edith O'Donnell Institute of Art History.

Art & Art History Professor Pia Brancaccio presented a paper on the Archaeology of Indian Ports at the international conference on “The Archaeology of Waters,” held at the University of Bologna Italy, January 24-25. Pia will be a speaker at the Roundtable discussion “Comparanda as context?— The Pompeii Figurine and Indian Yakshis” organized by the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW), New York University on Feb. 25, 2022.

Charles Morscheck, Professor Emeritus of Art & Art History, read a paper, "Giovanni Antonio Amadeo: A Tragedy in Three Acts," at the 9th Quadrennial Italian Renaissance Sculpture Conference, University of Vermont, October 17-19, 2021.

Art & Art History Assistant Professor Joseph Larnerd recently spoke with The Magazine Antiques about The Museum of Where We Are exhibition in Rincliffe Gallery as well as why and how we study everyday material culture. For excerpts from this interview, see "Object Lessons" in the January/February 2022 issue. 

The Visual Studies program is pleased to partner with The Study Hotel at University City in presenting solo exhibitions of artwork done by our faculty members. Each exhibition will be up for a 2-month period, beginning with adjunct professor of Visual Studies Rashidah Salam’s Moon Garden. The exhibition runs through April 4, 2022.

Thomas Falzani (Graphic Design ‘20) and Adit Gupta's startup company Lula raised more than $5.5 million in an oversubscribed seed round, just months after closing an oversubscribed pre-seed. Lula is a convenience store delivery subscription service that allows clients to order from their local corner store. Link to Article.

2021 BS Fashion Design alumni Neena Bui and Owen Rogoff showcased garments as part of Runway7Fashion at New York Fashion Week on Feb. 10.  

Richelle Parham (Design & Merchandising ‘91; Marketing, LeBow, ‘91), president of global e-commerce and business development at Universal Music Group, was recognized on the 2022 Billboard Power List. Link to Article.

Jill DiClementi, ASID, NCIDQ (MS Interior Design ‘01) was promoted to associate principal of Spiezle Architectural Group, Inc., an employee-owned, award-winning, full-service architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, and planning firm. Ms. DiClementi has been with the firm for five years. In addition to her award-winning designs, she strives to mentor young professional women in the workplace and has taught interior design courses in undergraduate and graduate programs at various colleges and universities. She has been a member of ASID since 2003. She is active in CREW, Women in Healthcare, and POWER. Link to Article.

Richard C. Quinn (Architecture ‘05) was promoted to principal of Spiezle Architectural Group. Mr. Quinn's career in architecture spans 30 years, the last seven at Spiezle, where he has successfully executed a wide range of projects, including senior living, corporate and public spaces. Additionally, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He is also a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional. Link to Article.

Eric Mathew Colton (MS Arts Administration '13; BS Film & Video, Theatre '10) recently joined the New York-based consulting firm Arts FMS and will specialize in financial management with arts organizations and non-profits in the New York metro region. He has spent over a decade on the management side of regional theatre, most recently as the Deputy Director of Finance at the Tony Award Winning Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA. Eric has also worked with DC's Studio Theatre and locally with The Arden Theatre Company. 

The Lighting Practice announced that Senior Lighting Designer and Drexel Architecture alumnus David Seok has been recognized in the 2021 Light Collective Class of 40under40, an international program that identifies the most talented and promising individuals working in the lighting design industry.
