We are pleased to welcome Victoria Gleason to the Westphal College community as an IT Support Specialist. Victoria joins us most recently from Thomas Jefferson University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Technology Management. Welcome, Victoria!

Music Industry Associate Professor Ryan Moys and current Music Industry student Hank Byerly are credited as engineers on the Grammy-nominated Generations album by The Baylor Project. Students in Ryan’s fall 2019 Sound Recording II class recorded overdubs for several of the songs on the album.

Adjunct faculty member of Art & Art History Talia Greene will open a solo exhibition, Sense<&-#:>Antisense, at Esther Klein Gallery (Science Center, 3600 Market Street), on December 16th from 5-7:30 p.m. The exhibition is the outcome of Greene’s residency at the biotech company, Integral Molecular, where she explored the ways that science has been misunderstood, misinterpreted, and willfully distorted during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Italian Legacy in Philadelphia,” a book of interdisciplinary essays, was released by Temple University Press, with a chapter penned by Distinguished Teaching Professor of Architecture Alan Greenberger. Learn more.

Jason Schupbach, dean of Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, was mentioned in a Nov. 19 Al Día article for his participation in a collaborative poem with PA Humanities, which was created for World Kindness Day. Link to story.

Assistant Professor of Music Industry James McKinney participated on a panel, “Go-Go and the Business of Sound,” for the Go-Go Museum & Café on Nov. 19. Alongside Sonia Herrero, Brandon Strickland, and Radiance Harris Esq., James discussed how to build a sustainable income by protecting intellectual property, owning the means of music production, leveraging creative skills for corporate clients, and using trademark registration to protect the mark you make.

Joseph Hancock, PhD, a professor in Westphal College, was quoted in a Nov. 17 WalletHub story about how consumers can distinguish between real Black Friday deals and marketing traps. Link to story.

Students/Alumni 

Fifth-year Architecture students Illyana Bass and Natalie DeRosa were part of a panel discussion at the 2021 AICAD Symposium on Diversity and Sustainability in the Built Environment. The panel "Must Give Us Pause: Diversity + Sustainability” sought to reflect upon and investigate our collective values, pedagogies, research, challenges, and potential visions—as artists, designers, curators, and critical thinkers—that will provide guidance as we forge a path forward that is inclusive and attentive to some of the most pressing issues of our day.

Graphic Design student and STAR Scholar Cora Hochstetler was awarded a $1500 Undergraduate Research Mini Grant for work she will be doing involving the Polish Poster Collections. She will work with faculty mentor Mark Willie, Teaching Professor of Graphic Design.

Denny K. Daikeler (Home Economics ‘60) published a new book titled Messages, Flowing with Synchronicity in which she recounts a lifetime of spiritual occurrences that proved to her that we all have amazing power, intuition, possibilities, healing ability, and connectivity. A writer, designer, artist, and interfaith minister, Ms. Daikeler serves on the faculty of School of Sacred Ministries in Doylestown, PA, where she was ordained in 2001. Link to Article.

MS Television & Media Management alum Briana White was honored with a Nashville/Mid-South Regional Emmy nomination for her work as a news producer at WSMV Television in Nashville.

Glenna L. Stone's (MS Interior Architecture & Design ‘10) company Glenna Stone Interior Design was featured in the newly released Inspired Interiors, a 392-page coffee table book published by Intermedia Publishing Services. The book showcases multiple interior designers by type of room and features the impressive work of over 70 professionals.

Students from the Design & Merchandising program and Community College of Philadelphia were featured on CBS Philly and KYW Newsradio for spicing up the window displays of small businesses in the city as a part of their final projects. Designs were completed in time for Small Business Saturday and will stay up throughout the holiday season.

Nicole A. Cashman (Design & Merchandising ‘94), president and CEO of Cashman & Associates, was recognized in Philadelphia Business Journal's 2021 list of Most Admired CEO Awards. Link to Article.

Neilly Robinson (BS Fashion Design ‘04) was profiled in the Foobooz section. She and her business partner are beginning their six-week run of Heirloom Kitchen Philly, a pop-up restaurant and kitchen on Spring Garden Street. Link to Article.

Elaine Ficarra, the reigning Miss Philadelphia and Theatre scholarship student, was featured in the WPVI-TV (6-ABC) coverage of the Nov. 25 "Visit Philadelphia" holiday parade. Link to story.
