On Thursday, August 18th Architecture & Interiors Professor Alan Greenberger will present A Remembrance of the Work of Ronaldo Giurgola, the 1982 AIA Gold Medal Winner, World Citizen, and Humanist. The talk will take place from 6-7pm in the URBN Annex, 3501 Filbert Street, free and open the public. Ronaldo Giurgola was one of the giants of late 20th Century architects. Together with his partner, Erman Mitchell, they created a prolific firm that was at the heart of the “Philadelphia School”. Mitchell/Giurgola won national and international design competitions, realized major projects in Philadelphia such as the United Way Building on the Parkway and the Penn Mutual Building at Independence Square. Giurgola's most renowned accomplishment was winning the the design competition for the Australian Parliament House, a project completed in 1988. Alan Greenberger joined Mitchell/Giurgola in 1974, became a partner, and remained with the firm and its Philadelphia successor, MGA Partners, through 2008. He worked closely with Mr. Giurgola on numerous projects and considers him a mentor, a colleague and a great inspiration to his own career.
