Yiyun "Kate" Fan

Yiyun Fan PhD student Drexel University School of Education

Yiyun (Kate) Fan is a PhD student and research assistant at the School of Education. Her areas of research focus on the intersection of Mind (psychology), Brain (cognitive neuroscience) and Education (learning) science and learning technologies, especially in higher education and online/hybrid learning space. She is also interested in learning more about learning analytics and data-driven decision making in education. She is one of the co-founders of the E-LaBS (Education, Learning and Brain Sciences Research Collaborative) at the School of Education, and a recipient of the Drexel doctoral student fellowship for 2019-2021. She currently serves on the editorial board for the Emerging Voices in Education journal and the M.S in Higher Education program advisory board at the School of Education.


Born and raised in China, she received a B.A. in English from Fudan University in Shanghai, and a M.S.Ed degree in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to Drexel, she worked in higher education in various capacities (Student Life, Registrar, online teaching, instructional design) in both China and the United States. Her professional experience and research experience at Penn GSE inspired her to pursue a doctoral degree to fulfill intellectual curiosity and make a difference.
