bernstein

Mark Bernstein (email: mpb63@drexel.edu; 215.571.4770; Room L365) is the Director of the Legal Research Center and Professor of Law. He also supervises the Law Technologies staff of the Thomas R. Kline School of Law.  Mark joined Drexel in 2009 and teaches Advanced Legal Research in the J.D. program as well as Legal Research and Analysis in the Masters of Legal Studies program. He has served as a member of the Faculty Senate and is a member of the Law School's senior staff and a member of the Long Range planning committee. He is an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries and in 2011 co-chaired the Local Arrangements Committee of the annual meeting held in Philadelphia. Bernstein’s publications include articles on the evolution of the law library, the impact of law specialization   on library services and qualitative methods for evaluating the value of a library. He received the AALL Spectrum article of the year award in 2008 for his 2007 publication, "One Size Fits All No More: The Impact of Law Specialization on Library Services".

Sunita Balija (email: svb24@drexel.edu; 215.571.4724; Room L361) is the Access Services Supervisor, Interlibrary Loan, Document Delivery and Reserves for the Legal Research Center.  She is a graduate of Rutgers University and and has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Drexel's College of Information Science and Technology.

Keith Berthrong (email: kab66@drexel.edu; 215.571.4765; Room L363) is the Electronic Services Librarian for the Legal Research Center.  He is a 2006 graduate of Drexel’s Library and Information Science Program, and has previously worked as the Electronic Resources Assistant at Hagerty Library, in addition to being a cataloger at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia.

John Cannan (e-mail: jc3238@drexel.edu; 215.571.4777; Room L310) is a Research and Instructional Services Librarian. He received his law degree from the University of Maryland, School of Law and practiced historic preservation and land use law in Baltimore.  After obtaining his MLS from the University of Maryland, College of Library and Information Science, he was assistant law librarian at the Montgomery County (MD) Circuit Court Law Library and then a legal information analyst with the Law Library of Congress.  He is a frequent writer on legal and legal research topics and  author of “Are Public Law Librarians Immune from Suit? Muddying the Already Murky Waters of Law Librarian Liability,” which was published in the Law Library Journal.  His current research interests are legal information services for self represented litigants, legislative history, Web 2.0 and judicial rules.

Peter J. Egler (e-mail: pje26@drexel.edu, 215.571.4776; Room L311) is a Research and Instructional Services Librarian. Peter has a J.D. degree from the Catholic University of America and a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining Drexel, he worked as a reference librarian at the Sacramento County (CA) Public Law Library and as the Head of Reference at the University of Houston Law Center’s library. Peter is also a member of the Pennsylvania bar.

Patrick Garon (email: pjg27@drexel.edu; 215.571.4733; Room L313) is the Access Services Evening Supervisor.  A graduate of Boston College, Patrick spent six years in a similar position at the LSU Health Sciences Center Library in New Orleans. He has an All But Thesis postgraduate education in Mass Communication/Media Studies from Louisiana State University, and at Drexel he has taken several postgraduate courses in Library Science. Patrick has been with the Legal Research Center since 2007.

Jessica Hsin-Wilson (email: jh585@drexel.edu; 215.571.4796; Room L361) is the Acquisitions/Serials Librarian for the Legal Research Center. Jessica received her M.L.I.S. from Drexel University’s College of Information Science and Technology.  Prior to joining the LRC, she worked at the New York University’s BOBST Library.  She holds a Master of Arts degree in Bilingual School Counseling from New York University and is currently pursuing a certification in Digital Libraries from Drexel’s College of Information Science and Technology.

Beth Huxta (email: eh382@drexel.edu; 215.571.4820; Room L313) is the Access Services Day Supervisor for the Legal Research Center. Beth holds a B.A. in English from Temple University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Library & Information Science at Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology.

Joan Mazuchowski (email: jgm26@drexel.edu; 215.571.4781; Room L361) is the Head of Collection Services for the Legal Research Center.  She is a 2001 graduate of Drexel University’s College of Information and Science Technology.  Her most recent law library experience was seven years of serving as the Collection Development Librarian at Jenkins Law Library.

Lydia Smith (email: lds63@drexel.edu; 215.571.4760; Room L361) is the Collection Services Assistant for the Legal Research Center. Lydia holds a B.A. in Library Science and a Teaching Certification from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She also works as a Library Assistant at her local library in the suburbs. She plans to someday pursue an M.S. in Library and Information Science with a certification in Archival Studies.

Lindsay Steussy (email: lhs27@drexel.edu; 215.571.4774; Room L364) is a Research and Instructional Services Librarian. She received her law degree from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was a law library fellow and worked in the reference department. Before law school, she received a Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University-Bloomington (as well as a Master’s degree in Medieval History), after which she worked at the University of Colorado-Boulder in the Technical Services department.

Steven Thorpe (email: steven.r.thorpe@drexel.edu; 215.571.4726; Room L312) is the inaugural Head of Access Services/Research and Instructional Services Librarian at the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law Legal Research Center. His most recent law library experience was ten years of serving as Head of Public Services at the University of Tennessee Joel A. Katz Law Library.
