Transfer Applicants

Transfer applications will be considered only between the applicant’s first and second years of law school. If you are interested in transferring here, you must submit:

1. An application (apply online)
2. An official LSDAS report
3. An official law school transcript
4. A personal statement indicating your reasons for wanting to transfer to the School of Law  
5. Your resume
6. Two letters of recommendation
7. A letter from your current school indicating that you are in good standing and stating your class rank; please send the letter directly to:

The transfer application deadline is July 15. Decisions are made on a rolling basis beginning in mid-June. No decision will be made until all first-year grades are received. We accept transfer students after completion of the equivalent to the entire required first-year curriculum at their law school. We do not accept mid-semester or third-year transfer students. We seek students who have demonstrated academic success and thus generally limit consideration of transfer applicants to students who are in the top third or higher of their first-year law school class. Transfer students are eligible to participate in Moot Court and Law Review in accordance with procedures set forth by the faculty.

Criteria for Transfer of Credit:

No more than 35 transfer credits may be received from courses taken at other law schools. All transfer credits must meet a threshold of C+ or better. Students are required to complete a minimum of 50 credits at Drexel University to receive their JD degree from the Kline School of Law.

Credit will not be awarded unless:

1. The course is offered by an ABA-accredited law school; and,
2. The student passed the course with a grade of C+ (or its equivalent) or above.

Grades received in courses taken at another law school are not included in the computation of a student’s cumulative grade point average at the Kline School of Law. The Director of Academic Services will notify accepted transfer students of the number of transfer credits recognized by the Kline School of Law upon receipt of an official transcript with final grades. Students may be prohibited from completing a course for credit at the Kline School of Law if they have already received transfer credit for a similar course.

Transfer credit from non-U.S. law programs should be discussed directly with Admissions.

Visiting Student Applicants

On occasion, a student enrolled in a JD program at another law school approved by the American Bar Association may apply for admission on a full-time, non-degree basis. Visiting students may attend for up to two semesters, earning credit toward a degree at their own institutions. An applicant must have completed their first year of law school before enrolling with us.

The Admissions Committee considers past academic performance as well as special circumstances when reviewing such requests. No one is admitted as a visiting student for more than two semesters.

If you are interested in being a visiting student, you must submit:

1. An application (apply online)
2. An official law school transcript
3. A letter from the applicant’s degree-granting institution giving permission for the applicant to earn credit for course work at the School of Law
4. A personal statement indicating your reasons for wanting to visit at the School of Law
5. Your resume
6. Two letters of recommendation
