On May 10, 2021, Professor Wendy Greene’s article “Title VII: What’s Hair (And Other Race-Based Characteristics) Got To Do With It?” was cited on HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” in a segment focused on the issue of hair-based discrimination.

Oliver’s monologue touched on cases, advocacy, and legislation with which Greene has been involved throughout her career and through which she has become one of the leading voices in the global movement to combat such discrimination. Oliver also mentioned the state-level versions of the “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair” (CROWN) Act, of which Greene is a legal architect.
