NOTE: In order to have Apple present on any topics, we must have a minimum of 12 folks registered to attend a session. If we do not have the minimum number, we will notify registrants at least 24 hours in advance of a session being canceled.

Accessibility Best Practices Using the Learn Editor

This workshop focuses on the editor for the BlackBoard Learn learning management system (LMS). The editor is the interface used by instructors, instructional designers, and other content managers for managing most online course content. It is the crucial area where the good or bad practices are employed that affect the overall usability and accessibility of the online learning environment. This workshop will demonstrate the most effective methods for using the editor, and show that best practices are easily achievable with a little basic training.

After participating in this workshop, you should be able to

  • Create course content that is usable and accessible by a greater number of students
  • Describe how the actions associated with the various icons in the interface can enhance or detract from the usability of course content
  • Add images that are meaningful to all students, including those with visual disabilities
  • Write and format copy that is usable and accessible to students, and that its easily repurposed by content managers.
