Same-Day Appointments

The Counseling Center seeks to ensure that students have easy access to care and values meeting the needs of all students in a variety of culturally responsive ways. We recognize that not every student needs, or is interested in, ongoing therapy. Same-day appointments are 30-minute confidential, free solution-focused appointments offered on a first come, first served basis each day and are widely offered during the busiest times of the term, such as at the beginning and end of each quarter. These appointments are meant to prioritize your immediate needs for that day. At the end of the session, you and your therapist will discuss next steps, which could include encouraging you to follow up as needed, connecting you with a campus partner for additional support, discussing the Center's various services, or connecting you with our case manager for follow-up with a community provider.

Same-day appointments are a great option for when you need to touch base with a therapist one time or occasionally, but do not require or want ongoing therapy. Same-days are great if you:

  • Typically have a good understanding of what is troubling you, and perhaps you cannot figure out what to do about it.
  • Are facing a difficult problem and are unsure how to resolve it.
  • Are generally action-oriented and are looking for goal-focused options.
  • Are dealing with an acute concern, need to make a decision, need coping skills, or need to talk something through.
  • Want to get a feel for what therapy might feel like.

Same-days are not designed to take the place of ongoing therapy. If you think you want or need several appointments with a therapist to really explore your concerns, consider making an appointment with the Counseling Center for an initial consultation to start some therapy. We can also help you find a therapist in the community if you think you want something for a weekly, long-term therapy relationship.

To make a same-day appointment, email counsel@drexel.edu or call 215.895.1415 and ask to schedule a same-day appointment. Please note, we cannot provide psychiatric medication services or documentation of any kind during a same-day appointment. Instead, call or email us to talk through scheduling an initial consultation to see if starting a course of therapy at the Center would be a better fit.
