Celebrating National Nurses Month: Meet Brandon Simpkins
May 13, 2024
Meet Brandon Simpkins BSN `19
I'm graduating in June from Drexel's MSN in Education program. After four years as a bedside nurse, I recently transitioned into a leadership role in the oncology unit on which I previously worked.
Q: Why nursing?
A: It's about making tangible differences in people's lives, especially in their most vulnerable moments.
Q: Why did you choose Drexel for this program?
A: Considering I received my BSN at Drexel I already knew how great the professors are. And the resources Drexel offers are endless.
Q: How are faculty and your cohort supporting you?
A: It feels like a close-knit family here. I've always felt comfortable reaching out with questions. There’s a real sense of mutual support and inspiration that fuels our success.
Q: What is unique about this program?
A: It's not just about learning in a classroom; it's about applying that knowledge in actual health care settings, which is invaluable for preparing us for the complexities of modern nursing.
Q: What is the current state of nursing?
A: Nursing is constantly evolving, facing new challenges every day. My tip? Stay adaptable, keep absorbing new knowledge and always remember the core reason you chose this path.
Q: How do you destress?
A: A good workout, take my French bulldog (Stella) on a walk and spend quality time with family.
Q: Three things you always carry?
A: My trusty stethoscope, a reliable notepad and an endless supply of pens.
Q: Something most people don’t know about me...
A: I met Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) in NYC and he took a selfie with me!
