What inspires you to train the next generation of leaders?
I am inspired by the need for all to receive high-quality, compassionate, equitable health care. Achieving the highest level of health should be a right for all in this country and not a privilege of a fortunate few. PAs play an integral role in this healthcare system, and I am proud to be part of Drexel PA education.

How has education and practice shifted over the last five years?
Without a doubt, the largest disruptor of PA education over the past five years has been the pandemic and the shift to remote/online learning in both the didactic and clinical phases of education. For me, the learning curve was steep as I navigated my way through the various technologies to engage our students and maintain teaching excellence. I am proud to say that all the students in our “covid cohorts” completed the program and were successful on the national certifying exam. Faculty, staff and students showed incredible dedication and resilience during this time.

How are you prioritizing health equity in the curriculum and practice?
It is a multipronged approach and is embedded in various threads of our 27-month training. First and foremost, we are a mission-driven program, and health equity is in the DNA of our program in our commitment to training primary care PAs with a focus on underserved communities. Additionally, we are situated in a college that prioritizes health equity. I have worked in federally qualified health centers for much of my clinical career. The focus of these centers is to provide primary care services in underserved areas, so it aligns well with the Drexel PA program.

Do you have a favorite restaurant, museum or location in Philadelphia where you enjoy spending time?
It is difficult to pick a favorite as Philadelphia has so much to offer in the areas of culture and culinary delights. Spending an afternoon at the museums on the Parkway like the Barnes or the Philadelphia Museum of Art is always wonderful. Walking and biking in Fairmount Park is a favorite as well. You can’t beat Old City for its history and beautiful architecture. That is the great thing about Philly — there is something for everyone.

What do you wish students knew before arriving for their first year of study?
It is the motto of the Philadelphia 76ers, but I think it applies to PA school as well — Trust the Process. The Drexel PA program has been educating PAs since the early 1970s with excellent outcomes. We understand that PA school is challenging and arduous — we went through it! Work hard, stay engaged and most importantly — take time for yourself away from studies to rest and recharge.
