Faculty and Student Accolades

Abby Duffine, MS, RD, LDN, a doctoral candidate working with Stella Volpe, PhD, was selected as a LEAH Fellow for 2017 to 2018! The LEAH (Leadership Education in Adolescent Health) fellowship is a grant awarded to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) provided by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resource and Services Administration. The grant is awarded to seven institutions across the country. The fellowship prepares professionals from a variety of health care disciplines to be leaders in clinical care, research, public health policy and advocacy as it related to adolescent health.  The interdisciplinary team is composed of fellows representing medicine, nursing, psychology, social work and nutrition.

An article by CNHP faculty member Krista Rompolski, PhD and students Danielle Grassi and Cassidy Forsyth along with Masaru Teramoto, PhD, from the University of Utah titled “Efficacy of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Pharmacotherapy on Adolescent Obesity” was published in the Journal of Student Research.

Presentations

Maryann Godshall was a presenter at both the Nursing of Children Network Conference in Wilmington Delaware on October 20, 2017 and the International Conference on Nursing in Barcelona, Spain on November 2, 2017. In Delaware, she presented “Pediatric Burns & Cultured Epithelial Autografts (CEA); A Case Study” and in Spain, she presented “New Modalities in Nursing Education: Inter-collaborative Practice.”

Kusuma Schofield, MSEd, MPH, administrative coordinator II, presented a poster at the American Public Health Association Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from November 4 through November 8, 2017.

Deeptha Sukumar, gave three invited talks in India in December 2017. She also gave an in-depth workshop (nearly the entire day) on Clinical Trials, on December 21.

The titles of each of her presentations are “Nutritional Regulation of Bone Metabolism”, Seminar at Department of Nutrition, Food Service Management and Dietetics, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, India. December 11, 2017; “Nutritional Influences on Bone Health” Seminar at Department of Home Science, Queen Mary’s College for College for Women, Chennai, India. December 14, 2017; and “Principles of Clinical Trial Management”. Workshop conducted at Department of Clinical Nutrition, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, India, December 21, 2017.

Joseph Boullata, PharmD, RPh, BCNSP, FASPEN, FACN, a clinical professor in nutrition sciences gave an invited presentation in Orlando, FL at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December 2017 titles “Applying Best Practices to Ensure Safe and Appropriate Use of Parenteral Nutrition.”
